Freezing goat cheese is a question frequently asked by consumers, as well as producers. It is important to know that freezing cheese is possible, but not always recommended due to the impact on the texture and taste of the cheese. Find out the best thing to do if you want to preserve your goat cheese for a longer period of time by freezing it.

Freezing goat cheese

Technically, you can freeze goat cheese. This extends its shelf life, but can change its texture. Especially hard and semi-hard cheeses are more suitable for freezing than soft cheeses, because soft cheeses have a higher moisture content that affects the texture more after freezing. This means that hard and some semi-hard cheeses such as Gouda, Cheddar and Parmesan can be frozen without too many problems. Again, remember that the texture of the cheese may change somewhat. We therefore recommend using the cheese in cooked dishes after freezing.

How to best freeze goat cheese

If you decide to freeze goat cheese, make sure you pack it well. Use plastic wrap and then place the cheese in an airtight bag. This will help prevent freezer burn and preserve the quality of the cheese as much as possible.

How best to store goat cheese

For storing goat cheese, the fridge is generally the best option. To preserve the quality and flavour as best as possible, it is recommended to store the cheese in cheese paper or greaseproof paper. This allows the cheese to breathe and prevents dehydration. For best flavour, we recommend eating goat cheese at room temperature.

Making cheese croquettes

5 pers
30 min

These cheese croquettes are a delicious alternative to regular croquettes! This is how to make about 25 cheese croquettes: Soak the gelatine in cold water. Meanwhile, melt the butter with the garlic clove in a pan over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted add the flour and stir until cooked. Keep stirring and then add the stock little by little until everything is absorbed. Turn off the heat and add the cheese, mustard, onion powder, pepper, soaked gelatine and salt. Stir well and then put the mixture in a baking dish with foil over it. Leave it to cool for an hour outside the fridge and then another about 4 hours in the fridge. For breadcrumbs, put the flour, eggs and breadcrumbs each in a separate deep dish. Roll balls of the cheese mixture and pass through the flour, then the egg and then the breadcrumbs. Put them in the fridge for a while and then it's time to deep-fry. About 3 minutes per ball.   Thanks for your delicious recipe Danielle (@Foodaholic.co.uk)
