We dive into the world of carbohydrates in cheese, a topic of interest to both cheese lovers and those who are diet conscious. We offer a look at how these tasty dairy products fit into a carbohydrate-conscious diet.

Cheese carbohydrates: general information

Cheese, a versatile and popular food, is generally low in carbohydrates. This makes it a favourite choice for many following a low-carb diet. But what about the different types of cheese we offer?

Carbohydrates in different types of cheese

  • Gouda cheese: Henri Willig's Gouda cheese is known for its creamy flavour. This cheese is relatively low in carbohydrates, making it a good option for those who eat carbohydrate-consciously.
  • Organic cheese: This cheese is rich in protein and has a higher nutritional value. The natural, truffle and garlic flavours add rich flavours without adding many carbohydrates.
  • Smoked cheese: Our smoked cheeses, both Gouda and goat cheese, offer a unique flavour due to the smoking process. They are an interesting addition to salads and are low in carbohydrates.
  • Extra aged goat cheese: Awarded the best aged cheese in the world, this cheese is not only rich in flavour but also low in carbohydrates. It is an excellent choice for a cheese board or in hot dishes.

Nutritional value of cheese

Besides the carbohydrate content, Henri Willig cheeses are also rich in proteins, vitamins (such as A, B12) and minerals (such as calcium and phosphorus). These nutrients make cheese a valuable and tasty part of a balanced diet.

Cheese and diabetes

Cheese low in carbohydrates can be part of a diabetes-friendly diet. The low-carb content helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is important for people with diabetes.

Making sandwich with grilled chicken and cheese

4 pers

Delectable sandwiches with grilled chicken, a delicious apricot spread, tomato, mayo, lettuce, avocado and our delicious young Gouda cheese. Truly a top combination! Preparation: Flatten the chicken breast and cut into 2 pieces. Mix the herbs with the olive oil and roll the chicken in it. Grill the chicken in a grill pan or in a contact grill until nicely browned and cooked on both sides. Toast the casino sandwiches in a toaster, oven or contact grill until nice and crispy.  Spread the first sandwich with the apricot dip, top with some lettuce and then the chicken. Spread a second sandwich with mayo and top with cheese, tomato and avocado slices. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper. Place this sandwich on top of the first and put the third sandwich on top. Carefully cut diagonally until you have two triangles. Then cut these triangles again into 2 smaller triangles and insert a skewer so it sticks together nicely.   @Ellouisacooking made these sandwiches for us, and we are definitely going to try this recipe ourselves! Thank you ;-)

This sandwich is simple but so delicious! Preparation: Toast the bread. Meanwhile, cut the onion rings and fry them in the pan until they are soft and discoloured.  Mix the honey mustard with the mayonnaise and spread one side of the buns with the mixture. Divide lamb's lettuce among the slices of bread and top with the cheese.  Then add the grilled pepper and over that the onion rings.  Sprinkle with some chopped walnuts and top with the ungreased slices of bread.  Cut the sandwich and then secure it with a skewer. If you cut it twice, it will be extra high.  Divide between 2 plates and your simple but delicious sandwich is ready. Enjoy!
