Bird exhibition De Stern
Discover bird exhibition De Stern
In Henri Willig's organic Jersey Stable, the bird exhibition De Stern can be visited daily and free of charge. See the IJsselmeer area through the eyes of five tern species and get a unique view of the special IJsselmeer nature above and below water. And discover how special this nature area is. This interactive exhibition was developed by the Bird Conservancy and will be be on display on the 2nd floor of the organic Jersey farm until 31 December 2025.
Together with the Markermeer and the Randmeren, the IJsselmeer forms the IJsselmeer region. Northwest Europe's largest freshwater lake that also happens to be on the East Atlantic bird migration route. An important place for hundreds of thousands of birds, including many species of terns, to rest, forage and breed.
The exhibition tells about the nature above and below water of the IJsselmeer. There are mini podcasts by birder Arjan Dwarshuis and special three-dimensional drawings of the five star tern species: common tern, little tern, black tern, giant tern and laughing tern. An interactive IJsselmeer game is fun for young and old as is a dry dive underwater. Besides the exhibition, visitors to the exhibition at Henri Willig can get to work themselves with a bird map and borrowed binoculars, which will help them learn to recognise the birds on and around Henri Willig's Jersey stables.
